Disguising Numbers

One of the main ways that interesting sound or visual patterns can be created is in transforming, or disguising, numbers themselves.

Taking the absolute value of a number is one of the simplest, yet one of the post powerful, of such disguises.

It is in conceiving, programming, and deploying these disguises that much of my real creative work in the past five years has taken place. To dream up some new wrinkle on an old disguise is a wonderful thing. To stumble across a completely new way of disguising numbers is altogether marvelous.

Armed with a toolbox of disguises (transforms, one might call them), one can sally forth and create designs with balance and contrast.
